It's Not What You Know, It's WHO You Know

Friendship is worth more than is given credit for

Today a special person was born. He is a brother, friend, study partner, colleague, comrade, fellow athlete... the list can go on and on.

I am grateful for your true friendship. I am hundred percent sure that you are going to become very successful in life. I also know that this year is going to bring you many accolades. Just don't stop, sky is the limit Sky (Akash) Kumar.

Something like cocaine or alcohol or what have you cannot give you a real sense of pleasure like a good workout, or climbing a mountain, or having a conversation with a really good friend that you haven't seen in a while. Those things are happiness, they are serotonin, and they are the only source there are for sustainable contentment. You can get dopamine hits from other things occasionally but if you don't have a source of real lasting contentment in life you are going to become an addict. Happiness is not worth chasing, it is a chimera. You cannot make happiness (dopamine hits) the obsession in your life. I believe joy, contentment, and gratitude are a lot better metrics and friendship provides you with all three.

Good friendship in my mind has essentially infinitely marginal returns because it is neurologically sustainable. Most of the positive outcomes in my life have been the direct or indirect result of a good partnership. That is why it is very important to have that connection with special someone. Friendship brings you the true joy that will last for a lifetime.

Pro tip: Find a friend who supports you in your mission, even better if he has the same mission as you.

PS: Expect a post on the topic of mission from me soon.
